Those who are much deeper thinkers ask the question “what’s in a name?” It is a valid question.
The Pillsbury Doughboy has a name just like me and you.
His name is Poppin Fresh.
That name sounds like a rappers name but it is his name.
The Daily Mail describes it thusly:”Poppin’ was first created in 1965 by copywriter Rudy Perz who was working on the Pillsbury account for Leo Burnett and was inspired to make a mascot that seemed to ‘pop out of a can of refrigerated dough.
Apparently the name was inspired by the concept the doe is fresh when it pops out of the can.
In the title of this article I thank Disney. I thank them for their help in designing Poppin.
“Disney designer Milt Scaffer was the original designer of Poppin’ and made sure that he didn’t look too much like Casper, something that worried Perz.
